Is a Startup for You?
Are you really suited to work at a startup?
This post holds a health warning – ‘startups are insanely bad for your health’.
And it applies to the first 50 employees in any startup on the planet whether they are its founder, leader, developer, sales person, intern, cleaner or coffee maker.
You see a startup is the business worlds equivalent of a team of explorers. Because if a startup is to be truly successful it has to break new ground, travel to the wide beyond and take no prisoners. Few startups succeed. Everyone knows that 9 out of 10 businesses fail – and that’s in the good times. We, the current crop of startups, have to navigate the worlds greatest economic downturn in 70 years. Which is the equivalent to traversing the Polar ice cap in the worst weather conditions on record – without enough food.
To succeed takes a great team. A unique startup team. Small businesses require extraordinary stamina. And small businesses that want to become big businesses, or change one of its markets even in a small way, require a beyond extraordinary team. One that works 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. A team that is always connected. One that can juggle tasks like a professional plate spinner. One that relishes daily challenges and even crises. One that has the will to win – even in the jaws of defeat. A team that rarely complains.
One that is humble and diehard. That learns fast and applies even quicker. A team that is insanely productive and that acts as ONE – ‘synchronisation in motion’. A team that is never confused about where it is going and what it will take to get there. A team that wants to pass the finish line in one piece – all together. A team that will not take no for an answer. A team that will never accept coming in second.
A team that always visualizes the finish line and the unique feeling involved with winning, crossing the finish line and completing its mission. Putting the mission first. One group of people achieving the impossible – together. That when its all over and done see the world differently – talk to each other with renewed respect and understanding. Look back on the race they have just won with a sense of accomplishment known only to the worlds greatest achievers. That shine on with the most profound confidence.
Is a startup for you? Really?

Its a scary world out there! of course the benefit of crowdsourcing is that the business is always awake, always producing and working, and stronger than a traditional small company.
